Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” - The Declaration of Independence. July 4, 1776


The founding fathers recognized that our freedom and independence come only from God, not the government.  It is in the Lord where we find the promise and fulfillment of these unalienable rights.  It is in the Lord that we have Life, Liberty, and Happiness.


As America celebrates Independence Day, we should consider how our freedom comes from the Lord - how His sacrifice, death, burial, and Resurrection broke the bondage and oppression of sin.  Reflect of these scriptures and rejoice, the Lord has set you free...


 Life 

John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Psalm 36:9
For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Proverbs 8:35
For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.



Liberty 

Galatians 5:1
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

John 8:36
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

James 1:25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Psalm 119:45
And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.



Pursuit of Happiness 

Psalm 144:15
Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.

James 5:11
Behold, we count them happy which endure… 

Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

John 13:17
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

Proverbs 16:20
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.



These unalienable rights are not just given to Americans, but God promises that all men, who chose to trust in His Word, will be endowed with these Truths, that Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness can be had by all, through Him.
