Joy is a Rebel

"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation."  - Habakkuk 3:18

Joy is an act of Rebellion! It has to be, it has to deliberately disobey the desires of this world. Wildly will it push against the current of emotional oppression. It will break free, shining against the backdrop of darkness that it leaves behind. Joy is a rebel, and a reward for those who follow its path – Into the arms of the Lord.

We all have those bad days, tragedies, annoyances, health problems, and stresses.  Joy does not come when these things are absent - joy stands in spite of these problems, even when they are present. When everything in our life seems to be chaos, one thing is constant and unchanging, the Lord!

Joy does not come from pleasures, wealth, or popularity.  Joy is found in Him alone. His goodness toward us is reason enough to rejoice.  Take a moment to consider all that the Lord has done for you.  Think of Calvary.  Think of your salvation.  Think of that first moment when you really could feel the presence of God with you.  Think about how He is wrapping His arms around you right now.  Fight against the weight of depression, temptation, and stress.  Surrender to the Joy of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 4:17)

Readers, what things in your relationship with God do you find most joyful?  Please share.
